Almost 55,000 households have reportedly been impacted by the rains, with their possessions and shelters damaged.

Persistent storms over the last seven days have intensified the already dire living conditions of the vast number of displaced civilians in the Gaza Strip, as stated by humanitarian groups.

"Awful" Night Creates Serious Risks

A spokesman described the weather overnight as "awful", with rain so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"Last night was truly terrible for the residents. The downpours were so intense... And the gales were so powerful," noted the spokesperson.

Authorities voice significant concern that children residing in temporary structures in wet clothing will succumb to hypothermia and various sicknesses.

Deaths and Significant Destruction

The health ministry have reported that one baby has died from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins caused by the storms.

Further statements suggest a increased number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that multiple residential buildings had collapsed completely and many others had collapsed partially.

  • Roughly 55,000 families impacted by rains.
  • More than 40 emergency safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Many people forced to find new shelter.

Relief Efforts Considered Inadequate

Agencies have increased deliveries of shelter, bedding and garments after the halt in hostilities began, but they stress there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Officials are striving constantly to provide that aid and to hand it out, but the size of the needs is so immense that we are faced with thousands of individuals and children who are really struggling each evening," warned one spokesperson.

Future Concerns and Agreement Plans

The second phase of the agreement includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of troops, and other conditions.

Aid groups have highlighted the need for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to address pressing and future needs."

The war was sparked by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Following actions have led to a high number of casualties in the region, as per official data.
