The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The England national team will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they attain the anticipated passage for a competition hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The English side are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Opening and Protest
The event was launched at an gathering in central London on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the site by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel to be removed from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.
Banners were displayed with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a game that will include Wales if they secure a place.
Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for European club finals from the upcoming season, will cater to families and help engage a broader range of audiences.
Participating Countries
The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.
The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.
Locations and Elimination Phase
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena round out the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
Leadership Comment
